Graham discussed his melody extraction research in more detail. Mike Mandel demonstrated his own ComeCloser mashup.
We discussed the idea of having a single kiosk that does different things. A kiosk with limited controls - e.g. joystick and a couple of buttons or video which will control limited parameters - enough that the viewer has a sense of control but not enough that they would actually be able to destroy the internal logic of the piece --> incoporate visual stimulai
- - if a monitor is necessary - video game theme? - 'simon says' interface
Found sound project
- Jeff said Michael Klingbeil had an idea of developing a program to classify sounds on the fly and add them to a database - the program would also be able to determine and classify the noise levels. Possible features for chunks - able to detect if monophonic or polyphonic, more bass-y or treble-y, amplitude envelope, spectral features (degree of harmonicity/inharmonicity).
What we'll work on for next week:
- Mike, Graham, and Ron will work on coding up some of the feature classifier. Jeff and Sam will work on a Max patch that will be able to musically exploit samples with this features. Johanna will work on a Jitter patch to integrate with Jeff and Sam's patch.
