MEAP class of Feb 5th, 2007

present: Ron, MarC, Sam, Christine, Dan, Jeff, (Mike)

Sam said Douglas's 1800 blocks were really beautiful.

Christine is indeed taking the design class. Project for class is to find a specific task and an expert who has been doing it for 10 years, talk to them for an hour a week, and develop a user interface design for them.

Some component of MEAPsoft? Visualizer? Segmenter?

Segmenter: goal is to cut up the soundfile. Automatic program runs, then user interface allows user to explore the results, then modify it - deleting segments, adding, moving them (?).

* Snap-to-beat .. different "radii of uncertainty" for different behavior.

* Supercollider sound file editor - Eisenkraut].

* Juce] library - used in Mackie's Tracktion].

* Composers like waveform view - no real desire for spectrograms, need precise temporal control.

* Or at least synchronized time and time-frequency views.

* Playback (with blips?) to experience acoustically.

We made a rough sketch of the user interface: http://labrosa.ee.columbia.edu/meapsoft/05-02-07_1326.jpg

Dan added a "with blips" checkbox to the playback control in the visualizer, and submitted it to Ron via darcs.
